Fishing Reports
Your on-line Colorado Flyfishing information resourse.

UPDATED 9-14-05

Blue River:  104 cfs in town. Flows are steady and the fish feeding well. I fished this section last weekend and picked up 9 fish in 2 hours. All the fish were caught on a #28 yellow/olive midge pupa pattern that I tie especially for this section. Spend some time taking samples of the insect life and tie up matching patterns. The Blue can be very technical at times but if you don't have time to tie your own stick with the proven patterns. Black Beauties, Candy canes, Mysis, Disco Midges, Baetis and a few PMD's. Winter is quickly setting into the higher elevations so nymphing is the ticket on this cold tailwater.www.fishcolorado.com

The Fork:  41cfs @ Aspen, 858cfs @ Glenwood. Gin Clear now but rains have been muddying up the water. The dry fly action is about gone and the fish are sitting deeper then usual. So plan on throwing nymphs deep for the majority of the day. Some surface action could brighten up your day if conditions get right while you are on the water. If they do it will most likely be Baetis or midge in the morning or Caddis in the afternoons and evenings. Nymph the riffles in the morning and evenings and hit the deep runs and pools in the middle of the day. Keep the nymphs smaller then you would during summer.www.taylorcreek.com

Upper Pan: 280cfs!!!! Flows are high but the water clear and cold. Heavy mysis coming through the dam and the fish are keying on them all the way through the bend pool. Drakes are still out and should be fished in the more turbulent waters. For the slower waters you are better off using Baetis or PMD imitations. Rusty spinners still the "go to ticket" in the evenings. Caddis are still coming off and ranging in sizes between #14 and #22. Here's a hint.... try skating them across the surface using a down stream presentation. ;)   www.fryingpananglers.com

Middle and Lower Pan: THE ENTIRE RIVER IS FISHING GREAT.  DOWN LOWER WATCH FOR THE "FLAV'S" www.fryingpananglers.com

S. Platte (Dream Stream): 87 cfs. LOTS OF CROWDS. There is better opportunities elsewhere but if you chose to fish here look for a decent Trico spinner fall around 9am. Other then that  BWO's, San Juan Worms, PMD's, RS2's and the rest of the usual assortments.www.fishcolorado.com Cheeseman: 194 cfs. Rain is raising hell in and around the Canyon. Give it a week or 2.

Taylor River: Call Brian for up to date specifics. Overall I have heard that this tailwater is fishing well with some VERY large fish being taken. www.almontanglers.com

The Gunnison: 783 cfs. PMD's, Caddis, B.W.O's and midge round out the major hatches. Wooly Bugger's is Olive and Black and a few big attractor patterns will handle the rest. Productive patterns include Large Stonefly nymphs #10-14, Princes, Pheasant Tails, Copper Johns, Zebra midges and Brassies. www.almontanglers.com

The Ark: 240 cfs @ Salida. Not fishing all that well but the fish are still looking around for the summer bugs. Fish in the soft water along the edges. Yellow Sallies, Caddis and PMD's www.arkanglers.com

Colorado River 955 @ Kremmling. BWO's are starting to move in for the fall. Fishing a Baetis emerger or crippler with a Prince dropper in size #18 or a Flashback Pheasant Tail #22 always works well for us.

Big T: 57cfs. A mixed bag really. Flows are coming down and changing things a bit. WD 40's, Hare's ear's, Caddis, Midge,

H & L PICK OF THE WEEK: Fryingpan River in it's entirety
